A Little More About Green Energy Man, Inc. In March of 2008 Lance Wright broke ground on a super-insulated, low-energy house that he and his wife, DU law professor KK DuVivier, specialist in conventional and renewable energy, hoped would be an example of a new genre of low energy buildings. Micro-load buildings that approach "Net Zero Energy" use with significantly smaller photovoltaic arrays than were commonly used at the time. Lance, an Energy Star Builder, learned of the existence of the stringent German energy standard known as "Passivhaus" shortly after he had broken ground on his home. The Passive House energy standard could reportedly reduce the annual heat load of a building by up to 90 % and it had just been introduced into North America through the establishment of the Passive House Institute, US by the German-born, architect, Katrin Klingenberg, in the University town of Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Lance immediately signed up for the inaugural training class in May of 2008. Unfortunately, the Certified Passive House Consultant training program was three, three-day-long sessions spread out over three months. Lance made the changes he could to his work in progress to try to come into compliance with the Passive House standard, but, upon completion, the house fell a little short of meeting the strict requirements of the standard.
